Highlights are simply pieces of hair that are lighter than your natural color. If your base color is brown, you can add highlights that are a lighter brown, or even have brown hair with blonde highlights. For blondes, blonde highlights include lighter blonde shades.
There are different types of highlighting techniques, as well. Foils are normally used to strategically isolate parts of the hair in various shapes and patterns, creating contrast that’s very bold, or very soft.
Your selection of highlights will allow you to retain much of your original color, while showing off your exciting nature.
Lowlights are a bit of the reverse of a highlight.
Looking to add some contour to your look? Go with lowlights, which are 2-3 shades darker than your base color. They work to deepen your natural hair color, adding richness and dimension to any look. If your hair is looking a bit flat, lowlights can also help you display some volume. And if old highlights are looking dull (or if you want to darken them up when the seasons change), lowlights are a great way to give them a bit of depth. I may also choose to use highlights and lowlights together in order to make the end result more natural.
Balayage is a free-handed technique of applying highlights, and does not usually use foil to separate the hair. Balayage creates soft and natural gradation of lightness along the hair strand—usually slightly deeper closer to the scalp and lighter towards the ends. Typically, balayage starts away from the roots and is focused towards the mid-shafts and ends of hair.
Ombre haircoloring is a dramatic, gradient color effect where hair is split into two contrasting color sections and gradually blended from one hue to the other.
Typically, the darker shade is up top at the roots and the lighter shade on bottom, but some prefer the opposite effect (this is called reverse ombre!). This gradation of color primarily affects the ends of hair, with the transition from the darker roots to lighter ends.
A texturizer is a chemical-based procedure to relax the texture of your curly and frizzy hair. It smoothes your curls to give you softer hair texture. It is technically a mild version of a relaxer. But while a relaxer directly straightens your curls and gives you a completely different look, texturizers only loosen your natural curls to improve the texture. A texturizer works best for S-shaped curls and naturally wavy hair.
Important: Texturizers won’t give you anything new from your natural hair texture. The end result always depends on the original texture of your hair. For example, it won’t create curls if you do not have them in the first place. It is a permanent process and will stay until your next haircut.
A glaze is an ammonia- and peroxide-free color deposit that is applied to wet hair. During the time it sits in the hair, the glaze adds extra moisture, shine, and color while taming frizz and flyaways in the process.
When the hair is done soaking in the product, it’s rinsed out for noticeable results. Not only will your hair feel softer and look healthier, but the treatment will enhance your color, too. Your hair will be happy and hydrated with a little extra sparkle – great for events & photo-worthy moments.
Unlike the glaze treatments, glosses penetrate the hair shaft and deposit color into the hair cuticle for a longer-lasting effect. They are a permanent or semi-permanent color treatment.
Hair glosses can be used for a variety of reasons, but color toning and enhancing are some of the most popular ones. Whether someone is trying to use this demi-permanent treatment to cover gray hairs, correct bright or brassy tones, or bring certain colors to light, this treatment is perfect.
Gloss isn’t a one-size-fits-all treatment, so many stylists will custom create a gloss for your desired outcome.
Because it operates like a deep conditioning treatment, many opt for clear gloss treatments when they want the benefits, but not the color. With a gloss, they can expect their hair to be in better shape than before with a reflective glow.
Updos are a fun, albeit somewhat temporary hair style that work great for special events such as weddings. The hair is swept upwards and held with hair clips or bows to retain their beauty.
There are many different styles for updos including some sleek, romantic, or "imperfectly messy" look updos.

Every color is different. Some bleaching can be washed within a couple days and have no effect, but most dark colors require you to change your hair washing routine. If you do need to wash your new color, make sure you use as cold of water as possible with color safe shampoo and conditioner. Even room temperature water can cause dye loss.
